Formosa
From 2009 - 2014 I was the creative founder of Formosa Design, a business that made homewares and handbags featuring textile designs of Australian nature.
Back in 2009 I had relocated to Australia’s bush capital Canberra and it was while living there that I was struck by how beautiful and how little our local flora had been depicted in mainstream Australian design and fashion. At the time European and American-centric imagery was popular. So I began Formosa with the idea that if you could make lesser known flora iconic through repeated textile prints, it would be better conserved and valued. Today it is common to see native flora used in Australian design and I find this very satisfying.
Regrettably, despite being stocked in over 110 stores across Australia, Jennifer made the tough call to close Formosa in 2014. The closure allowed her to focus on the care of her first baby and also to support her husband when he was relocated overseas for work.
